Hello and good morning to you. Andrea and I were down at the Space event last night, which featured the actress Maxine Peake and Glastonbury founder and organiser, Michael Eavis. We’ll talk more about him, a little later.

Today’s Power Shower Hour song came from Iggy Pop, ‘Real wild child,’ from 1986.

John Lennon’s M.B.E has been discovered in the vault of Buckingham Palace. He gave it back in protest against some war or other. Bloody hippies. Anyway, this inspired us to think stuff we’ve had to refuse or give back. Andrea feels she should give her 10 metre-swimming badge back, after letting her foot touch the floor and not telling anyone, until now that is.

Ant, working at Jewson’s in Portslade refused a heavy tip at work the other day and is now regretting it. Dan has a very lovely beard (according to him) and sent back some razors he got for Christmas.

Michael Eavis was our very special guest today. He’s a farmer and a festival organiser, so we talked cows and music, milk and Morrissey. He shared his memories of the first ever festival, Marc Bolan and T-rex turning up and ‘playing on a stage held together by string and barbed wire.’ He mentioned Coldplay, Oasis, Bowie and The Smiths as some of his favourite ever Glastonbury performances.

He remained tight lipped about this years headliners but all four have been confirmed. One of them is a personal favourite of Michael’s (an American band) and another British band who have played before but not for sometime. We think we know but confirmation of the acts will be announced early Feb. He’s a lovely chap and he was also proud of his Kings of Leon shirt, worn years before the band started to wear them. See picture above.

    All hail Michael Eavis!!

Thanks for listening. We’ll be back in the morning quite early. Too early, some might say.

Today Kim Wilde’s Kids In America woke us up with the Power Shower Hour Track this morning.

Juice Allstars shockingly won last night, a 4-1 crushing defeat to Pyroban! I was in the warm watching a DVD thank you very much.

The hobby of trainspotting is on the way out and according to a new report morris dancing will be gone in 20 years, it’s just too embarrassing in Guy’s opinion. My friend has dabbled in the artform before, it’s one of those quintessentially British things! Mick likes the idea of Morris Dancing Bars (much like tabledancing?) whilst Tessa can’t see it dying out and Tim in Hove thinks Morris Dancing has been around since the Middle Ages – much like it’s fans!!!

Kids grow up so fast but a German 6 and 7 year old gave their parents a fright when they decided to disappear in the middle of the night – to get married. They took a 5-year-old witness (the brides little sister) and headed off to Africa to get hitched. A train guard spotted them as they headed to the airport, complete with lilo and sunglasses! Clare came up with a great suggestion for a song linked to this story - Young Hearts Run Free - Candi Staton!

Interviewer Briggy popped into the studio to talk about this evenings ‘Space’ event.
You get the chance to be in the audience as Briggy questions media’s high flyers, and ask a probing question or two yourself. It’s like being in the audience for Jonathan Ross’s show – but better! For a fiver tonight you can hear from Glastonbury festival organiser Michael Eavis, who knows, too many sherries and he might let slip the headliner for 2009! Head down to the Latest Music Bar on Manchester Street for 7pm. Congrats to Nathan who won our years membership for knowing that The Verve closed 2008’s festival. Mr Eavis will be our guest on tomorrows show!!!

Jonesy reviewed Jim Carrey’s new film Yes Man in our Odeon film review. A 6 out of 10 for the rubbery-faced-ones latest offering. Cat won our VIP tickets to the Odeon as she knew (as many did this morning) that Jim as played Batman baddie The Riddler.

The breakfast team breathe a sigh of disappointment and a snigger as we hear Lewes Council are banning new road names that can be ‘deliberately misinterpreted’ so no Typple Avenue or Hoare Road…

See you and Michael Eavis tomorrow morning for cornflakes!

  • ANYONE FOR TRAINSPOTTING?
    Added
    01/05/2009 - 10:56

Back to normality then and not a moment too soon for me. Let’s crack on with 2009 and look forward to, ummm…. spring, or something. We’ve been working through the festive period, so no Monday blues in the studio this morning but for many, it’s back to school and work, or if you worked for Woolworths, back to bed.

Today’s Power Shower Hour song was a little ironic, from 1979, Boomtown Rats, ‘I don’t like Monday’s.’ We hope that cheered you up.

We chatted about the new Dr.Who…or Dr.Who? His name is Matt Smith. He’s a man and an actor. That’s all we know. He’s also reasonably ‘dishy’ according to Andrea.

Trainspotting could be a thing of the past as anti-terrorist police start to move suspicious types away from train stations. We say, ‘good!’ It’s a ridiculous hobby but it got us thinking about mundane hobbies. I used to be a birdwatcher (‘look…it’s a buzzard!) and Andrea used to collect badges (look…it’s a badge!)

You shared your nauseating hobbies; Jamie was a trainspotter briefly in the nineties, Peter outed his brother Kevin, who is into 19th century steam engine models (yawn), James collects Nintendo consoles and can’t stop. We all grow out of these difficult periods, apart from trainspotters who are probably aliens from another world. Loads of offence intended.

Three princes are looking for love in Brighton! It’s being filmed for a BBC 3 documentary in Brighton, where an Indian, a South African and a Sri Lankan Prince are all looking for love in our fair City. Lee gave us a call to say that the Indian prince chatted him up and he turned him down! He only realised he was a prince after we announced it on air this morning.

We had a celebrity big brother catch up. I’m addicted already; it’s ideal hibernation TV entertainment.

Thanks for listening, we’ll be back in the morning from 7am.

  • FRIDAY THE NEW MONDAY
    Added
    01/02/2009 - 10:25

Morning and welcome to a Friday that feels like a Monday. Don’t know about you but I’m craving a bit of normality in my life. Holidays, work, holidays, work, I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Andrea and I were both in recovery yesterday; a day of bad films and not so bad takeaways ensued.

Our Power Shower Hour Song was soothing on the soul this morning. A classic from 1968, Aretha Franklin’s ‘I say a little prayer.’

We talked all things new year this morning. We laid out our New Years resolutions this year (Andrea-to be more tidy, Guy not to over feed the fish and to host the Brits). We decided ‘small goals’ are the way forward rather than epic promises one can never fulfil. You shared yours; Dave gave up smoking for five hours (it’s a start), Steve wants to lose the paunch (tell me about it) and Rachel wants to carry on with her obsession with Johnny Depp (and why not?).

Like a tortoise, the hibernation starts here with me and Foxy. We declared our essentials for the Jan/Feb period of staying in. This was largely based around tea, biscuits and DVD’s. We shall return for public appearances in March and I do know that Andrea won’t get out of bed for less than a tenner. Go to eleven though and she’s there.

Have a good weekend and we’ll return at the usual time of 7am this Monday.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

    12/31/2008 - 10:55

Morning and welcome to our New Year Eve Breakfast Show blog. We both stayed in last night to prepare ourselves for tonight’s celebrations. Having said that, I had my third Christmas Day last night (I have a large family) and reasonably pleased with my latest round of presents. They included a bottle opener that says, ‘Goal!’ every time you peel the lid off. Like I said before, simple things please simple minds.

Today’s Power Shower Hour Song was designed to warm you up for tonight, from 1983, ‘1999’ from 3 ft 2 inch pop star, Prince.

We shared your suggestions for tonight, including Paul who has organised a game of mud football at 12 tonight and Tom whose having a house party with the theme of 2008. Interesting. I’m heading up to London for a bash, whilst Foxy is running around Brighton looking for action.

We shared some of our highlights (and lowlights) from 2008. Highlights included our interview with Kings of Leon, James Morrison and our Christmas single. Lowlights included a couple of bloopers from the very lovable Jonesy.

Jonesy also hosted our annual Quiz for 2008, named ‘Jonesy’s honkin’ great quiz,’ and it was tense. Andrea and myself went head to head with our general knowledge of the last 12 months. It went down to the wire and a tiebreaker, which Foxy stole by guessing the number of times ‘girls’ is sung during Sugababes, ‘Girls.’ Apparently, it’s a lot.

That’s it for 2008. Thanks for supporting us all year and we’ll be back tomorrow at the later time of 9am.

Happy New Year from us both x

Morning! Today we woke you with a Power Shower Hour track from the Chemical Brothers – Star Guitar, lovely.

CBB ALERT! Celeb Big Brother starts Friday 2nd Jan at 9pm on Channel 4. The Mini-me actor from the Austin Power films, LaToya Jackson, Coolio, Dan from A1, Mutya Buena, Lucy Pinder and Ulrika Johnson are thought to be heading in to the house.
It seems we might be in for someUlrika Johnson overload – Shooting Stars is back on tonight! Ah, great to have some of our fav telly with us again.

We talked the Top Names of 2008 – for the boys - Jack was number one for the 14th Year running, with Olivia top for the girls.
If Guy has a girl he wants to call her Mia, which he’s please to see is still individual as it’s not in top 100. As for me I won’t get any thanks for it but have recently been thinking that the boys name Lucius might be quite fun (like the Batman character Lucius Fox! HAHA!) As for girls names, I hate them all, so Andrea Junior it is...

Alan from an icey Woodingdean won a night partying with Norman Cook. He’ll be Djing at Oki-Nami’s New Years Eve celebrations Wednesday night. Tickets are still available, just head to the sushi bar and restaurant on New Road in Brighton and nab grab a ticket for £25!

Tune in tomorrow for the best bits of some of our interviews from 2008, and we’ll be asking for your highlights from the past 365 days!

    See you at 7am!

  • POST XMAS MORTEM
    Added
    12/29/2008 - 10:36

Hello and a very happy post Christmas to you. Andrea and myself have just returned from weekends away, the very glamorous Bolton and Reading respectively. Today’s Power Shower song was not Christmas related at all, from 1968, Stevie Wonder’s, ‘For once in my life.’

We did have a post Christmas review of our presents and opened up the traditional xmas swap shop. We both did very well out of our presents; my personal highlight was a Queen live at Wembley DVD, whereas Andrea was jealous of her brother’s

We also came up with some tips on blagging the week away if your forced to come into work this morning. The usual ‘organising’ and ‘cleaning’ parts of the office is good for a blag. I’ll be cleaning Jonesy’s desk but secretly looking for his chocolate biscuits and then spending the rest of the morning eating them.

We’re also hitting the sales today. Andrea has a very specific hit list, always heading for a disappointing day if you go in with expectations. I’ve narrowed my sales spend to a Laurel and Hardy box set and a new jumper. Simple tastes for a simple man.

Top telly so far this Christmas, I enjoyed Justin Lee-Collins on the hunt for the cast of Fame, whilst Foxy got caught up with the latest Eastenders drama; a DNA result in a Christmas cracker! Whatever next? Dirty Den in a stocking? Frank Butcher found alive and well in the Christmas pudding? We both agreed Albert Square and everything thst goes on down there, is a load of old tosh.

That’s it for today and we’ll be back in the morning from 7am.
